463 TEMPE KIDS LEARN TO SWIM THANKS TO SOUTHWEST AMBULANCE POOL PACK SWIM LESSON PROGRAM
Program Designed to Help Reduce Number of Child Drownings

Tempe, Ariz. – Southwest Ambulance and the City of Tempe Parks and Recreation Department announced that 463 kids learned to swim at the Escalante Community Center Pool thanks in part to a $5000 donation by Southwest’s Pool Pack Swim Lesson Program.

Southwest’s Pool Pack Swim Lesson Program works with communities and organizations to provide children free or reduced cost swim lessons in hopes of reducing the number of child drownings. The child focused program compliments efforts of Fire Departments that focus on parental education and responsibility around water.

The program began in 2002 in three communities (including Tempe) and has expanded.  This year, 10 different communities and organizations have received donations, and an estimated 10,000 kids learned to swim this summer alone thanks to Southwest Ambulance Pool Pack sponsorships.

Participating communities and organizations include: Casa Grande, Chandler, Florence, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Surprise, Tempe, and Tucson.
