Drownings are a major concern in Arizona due to the large number of backyard pools. Every year too many children die from drowning. Area Fire Departments and others have done an excellent job raising awareness of water safety issue to parents, but drowning still continue.

ImageIn 2002 on a day when two children drowned, Southwest Ambulance staff were brainstorming on ideas to help stop future drownings. Someone suggested that we teach everyone to swim. At first everyone laughed, but less than an hour later the Pool Pacy program was born.

Pool Pact works with communities to provide children free or reduced cost swim lessons. It is a compliment to the programs area Fire Departments are running. They are focusing on the parents while we focus on the kids. Swim Lesson Registration is handled directly by community Parks and Recreation Departments. Each program is independently managed, offering varying levels of sponsorships for swim lessons.

To learn more about swim lessons and/or Pool Pact scholarships are available in your community, call or visit the website of your local Parks and Recreation Department.
