SOUTHWEST AMBULANCE AND EMPLOYEE UNION CELEBRATES 15 YEARS
IAFF Local I-60 Employees Wearing Special Shirts to Honor Anniversary

Tucson, Arizona (August 14, 2007) – Field employees of Southwest Ambulance across Arizona are wearing special T-shirts between August 1-15 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the formation of its union, the United Emergency Medical Professionals of Arizona, International Association of Fire Fighters Local I-60.

“Over these past 15 years since the union began, we’ve seen a significant improvement in the quality of life for our employees and the patients we serve,” said Jason Payne, President of I.A.F.F. Local I-60.  “While we don’t always agree, we trust each other and work together to make this a better company for all of us.”

“We’re a stronger company thanks to our partnership and cooperation with Local I-60,” said Patrick Sullivan, Division General Manager of Southwest Ambulance in Pima County. “Our employees are our company, and we’ve got a great partner in I-60 thanks to its talented and dedicated members who serve the community so well.”

Southwest Ambulance and Local I-60 have signed several agreements over the last 15 years.  The contracts have included significant wage increases, training opportunities and benefits improvements.  The relationship has also led to Southwest Ambulance becoming the only private ambulance provider in the nation to offer its employees a 20-year pension similar to many municipal fire departments.  Labor and management also co-chair regular meetings and subcommittees that are open to all employees, to quickly discuss and resolve any concerns and introduce new ideas.
