SOUTHWEST AMBULANCE DISTRIBUTING
“JUNIOR LIFEGUARD” WRISTBANDS TO KIDS AND WATER SAFETY TIPS TO PARENTS
AT TEMPE TOWN LAKE SPLASH PARK AS A WATER SAFETY REMINDER

Tempe, Ariz. –  Southwest Ambulance crews will be passing out red “Junior Lifeguard” wristbands to kids and water safety reminder cards to parents at Tempe Town Lake’s Splash-Park daily at 2 PM starting on Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 20.  The red rubber wristbands are a drowning prevention reminder to children to be careful around water.  The water safety tip card reminds parents of their responsibility to watch children around water and to remove potential water hazards around the home.  Southwest’s effort is designed to be a compliment to the success of Tempe Fire Department’s efforts to prevent child drownings.

“The high summer temperatures make the water extra enticing to children so hopefully the wristband will be a reminder not to enter the water without an adult,” said Aaron Moss, Southwest Ambulance Operations Director for Tempe.  “The wristband reminders and water safety tip cards are an excellent addition to Southwest’s Pool Pack Swim Lesson program.”

Tempe is one of ten Arizona communities to receive Pool Pack Swim Lesson scholarship grants from Southwest Ambulance.  The grants provide free or reduced cost swim lessons in hopes of preventing future child drownings. Participating communities are: Casa Grande, Chandler, Florence, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Tempe, and Tucson.

About the wristbands:  The child-sized red rubber wristbands have white lettering that say “Southwest Ambulance   Junior Lifeguard.” The company expects to give away 500 of the wristbands to Tempe community kids over the 5-day period.
