SOUTHWEST AMBULANCE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE LOCAL DISASTERS Arizona’s Largest Ambulance Provider With More Than 300 Ambulances is Ready for Local/ Regional Incidents Similar to Minn. Bridge Collapse
Mesa, Arizona (August 2, 2007) – Yesterday's Minnesota bridge collapse is another reminder of why Southwest Ambulance trains for, and is prepared should, a local or regional mass casualty incident occur. As the largest ambulance transportation provider in Arizona with more than 300 ambulances, Southwest Ambulance has the infrastructure and training necessary to quickly respond in a disaster in partnership with area Fire Department personnel. Southwest Ambulance has more than 75 ambulances in Pima County, and hundreds of Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. Just up I-10 in Pinal and Maricopa Counties, an additional 225 ambulances and 700 field personnel are ready to assist on a moments notice. Southwest Ambulance’s Tucson headquarters also includes a medical supply warehouse with a multi-week supply available during an emergency. The company’s Mesa-based warehouse has an additional 90-day supply available for Pima County if needed. The Tucson headquarters building also includes an Emergency Operations Command Center (EOC) with phone and computer hook-ups on an emergency generator available for area public safety agencies to use during an emergency if needed. “If a natural or man-made disaster were to occur in Arizona, Southwest would be transporting a large number of those patients as the State’s largest ambulance transportation provider,” said Patrick Sullivan, Pima County Division General Manager for Southwest Ambulance. “We regularly participate in local drills under the direction of State, Federal or Fire Department lead agencies to give our management and crews realistic simulations and practice opportunities that can save lives during a real emergency.” In addition to training in Pima County and elsewhere in Arizona, Southwest Ambulance has assisted during past tragedies in the region. Just a few years ago, Southwest sent ten ambulances and more than 25 dedicated employees to help in Texas before, during and after Hurricane Rita.
