SOUTHWEST AMBULANCE TO CONTINUE SERVING APACHE JUNCTION FIRE DISTRICT

(Apache Junction, Ariz. Feb 22, 2007) – Southwest Ambulance today announced it has been awarded a three-year contract renewal to continue as the exclusive provider of 911-emergency medical transportation services in the Apache Junction and Gold Canyon, Arizona through November of 2009.  The notification from the Apache Junction Fire District Board represents the first of two three-year optional renewals under terms of the original agreement.

Southwest Ambulance has been the exclusive provider of emergency ambulance services in Apache Junction since 1993.  The company serves the medical transportation needs of more than 3500 Apache Junction Fire District patients each year.  

Apache Junction is a desert community at an elevation 2,070 feet above sea level located 35 miles directly east of Phoenix on Highway 60 (the Superstition Freeway). It is the easternmost community in the Phoenix-Mesa metropolitan area. Incorporated in 1978, the city currently encompasses approximately 36.5 square miles. It is home to the legendary Superstition Mountains.  The year-round population of Apache Junction was estimated at 41,104 in 2004. Each year the city welcomes over 35,000 seasonal residents, increasing the population of the city from mid-October to mid-April to over 76,000 residents.  Gold Canyon, which is part of the Apache Junction Fire District, has around 10,000 year-round residents and sits at the foot of the southeastern region of the Superstition Mountains.
