SOUTHWEST AMBULANCE WINS STATE AGENCY HOSTED
SKILLS COMPETITION DURING EMS WEEK

(Mesa, Arizona  5/24/07) A team of Southwest Ambulance employees placed first in a skills competition hosted by the Arizona Department of Health Services on May 23 during national Emergency Medical Services week.

The competition was based on 20-minute patient scenarios and the teams were required to care for the “patient” which was a Human Patient Simulator. The competitors were judged by Emergency Medicine Physicians as the teams reacted to a dynamic patient care scenario.

Several fire and private ambulance agencies from around Arizona participated.  The winning Southwest Ambulance team was Paramedic and Local I-60 President Jason Payne, Paramedic Andy Baird, Paramedic Dave Stockton, and EMT Adam Lizardi.

“EMS Week marks a yearly reminder for the public to show appreciation to all ambulance, fire and health care workers for their life saving efforts,” said Jeff Sargent, President of Southwest Ambulance.  “Our Southwest team placing first in this DHS led competition is a direct compliment and reflection on each of dedicated and talented EMTs, Paramedics and RNs, as well as our in-house led training department.”

“The teamwork displayed during the competition is emblematic of the teamwork our crews demonstrate every day working with the talented fire fighters and health care providers around Arizona,” concluded Sargent.

This is the second year of the Department of Health Services sponsored competition, but the first year Southwest Ambulance has competed.
