Southwest Company History |
Southwest Ambulance was founded in late 1982 with one ambulance and has grown to more than 1200 employees and nearly 300 ambulances. Southwest is now one of the largest ambulance providers in the Western United States.
Below is a short timeline of highlights from the past 20 years of growth.
| | | | 1982 | Southwest Ambulance began doing pre-scheduled interfacility transports and some 9-1-1 work in the City of Phoenix (before the Phoenix Fire Department took over ambulance service in future years). | | 1986 | Glendale becomes Southwest Ambulance's first sole provider 9-1-1 contract. | | 1990 | Mesa becomes our largest sole provider 9-1-1 contract (and still is today) | | 1996 | City of Tucson signs a contract with Southwest for BLS ambulances. | | 1997 | Southwest becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Rural/Metro Corp. | | 2003 | Southwest Ambulance began service in New Mexico. | | 2004 | Southwest Ambulance expands into Yavapai County, Arizona. | | 2006 | Southwest Ambulance began service in Utah. |
