STATE APPROVES CHANDLER AMBULANCE CONTRACT
(Chandler- February 14, 2007)  The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) today notified Southwest Ambulance that its contract to serve the City of Chandler was approved.  Meeting the February 23rd deadline set by Chandler for final contract approval in order to continue serving portions of the City.

The contract does allow for Chandler Fire Fighters to staff some of the ambulances, and receive reimbursement from the ambulance providers.  A sticking point earlier stated by ADHS.

“We’re thrilled that we finally have ADHS’ approval so that we can continue serving the residents of Chandler as we have for the past 20 years,” said Jeff Sargent, President of Southwest Ambulance.  “This process took much longer than expected, and now we can move forward as full partners with the Chandler Fire Department.”

With the ADHS approval, Southwest Ambulance will provide the payments to the City as required by the contract (i.e. municipal dispatching services and equipment and rent for space in city fire stations).  Meetings with the Chandler Fire Department have already been held to prepare for the staffing transitions and other items within the contract.

Southwest Ambulance previously made an agreement with its field employee’s union, International Association of Fire Fighters Local I-60, that any displaced paramedics will transition to other locations that the company serves.
