Southwest Ambulance has been the proud partner of the Tucson Fire Department for Basic Life Support transports in the City of Tucson since 1996. Under the contract agreement, the Tucson Fire Department is the first responder for all medical emergency 911 calls. A Tucson Fire Department Paramedic is sent to the emergency to care for the patient. If the Tucson Fire Paramedic decides the patient does not require Paramedic level care and only that of a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Southwest Ambulance is dispatched to complete the transport. This allows the Tucson Fire staffed Paramedic level ambulances to return to service more quickly, making them available for future medical emergencies. There is zero cost to the City or Fire Department for Southwest Ambulance services; rather patient’s and/ or their medical coverage carrier is directly responsible for emergency medical costs. All medical care and transport rates are set by the State of Arizona’s Department of Health Services- Southwest Ambulance also provides ALS transports for Green Valley Fire Department & Northwest Fire Department.
